Injured Burr Ridge Woman Receives Offending Stanley Cup Puck

Dr. Patricia Higgins is still recovering from the nasty injury, and was "teary-eyed" when presented with the flying projectile that caused it.

The Burr Ridge resident and Chicago Blackhawks fan who was badly injured when she was hit in the face by a hockey puck during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals has been presented with the missile itself, placed in a luxury box with a red ribbon by Park Ridge businessman Irv Kaage, the Doings Burr Ridge reports.

According to the paper, Kaage ended up with the puck after it struck local resident Dr. Patricia Higgins, herself an urgent-care practitioner still in recovery, and knew that he had to return it to her, accomplished in a ceremony at the Loop on Tuesday.

“When I saw Irv walk through the door, I was kind of overwhelmed with emotion,” Higgins, who needed several stitches above her right eye and still can neither smell nor taste, told the paper. “I got a little teary eyed ... the generosity." She added that she will definitely still attend Hawks games.

The Blackhawks won that game in an epic triple-overtime, and eventually captured the Stanley Cup in six games.
