The Hinsdale Central Homecoming Parade traveled straight down 1st Street in downtown Hinsdale Saturday, opening a long day of Red Devils activities. At noon, Hinsdale Central plays Hinsdale South in the Homecoming football game at Dickinson Field. Then at 8 p.m., students will head back to the school for a James Bond-themed dance. Hinsdale Central's Homecoming dance takes place Saturday night at 7 p.m., and we all know the highlight of night (at least for the parents) is the pre-dance photo shoot. Patch wants to showcase those pics. Hinsdale Central's 24-member Homecoming Court 2012 was introduced to a packed gym during a pep rally Monday afternoon that got started a little late after the school's fire alarm went off right around 2:40 p.m. (How convenient.) The pep rally concluded the first school day of Hinsdale Central's Homecoming Week, which will culminate Saturday with a football game against Hinsdale South and the "A Night in the Windy City" dance. The Rebel Cannon will remain in Downers Grove for at least another year. Despite a valiant effort by the Hornets, Downers Grove South extended the trophy’s stay by defeating Hinsdale South 49-6 Friday night in Downers Grove. The two rivals have battled for the Cannon every year since 1966. Although Hornet fans remain faithful, the Mustangs have now won the cannon six years in a row, meaning this year’s seniors are the third straight class to have never lost the Cannon. “We’ve always beaten Hinsdale South, so it’s nice to finish it off,” Downers South Senior Defensive Lineman Jeremy Ulrich said. Senior running back Keontae Hall bulldozed his way for 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Hinsdale South's 42-0 win Friday night.
Hinsdale South head coach Michael Barry challenged his offensive line prior to the team's homecoming battle against the Morton Mustangs. Not only was the challenge accepted, but the Hornets passed the test with flying colors as they steamrolled their way to a 42-0 victory Friday night. Senior running back Keontae Hall was the main beneficiary of the offensive line's rugged play up front. Hall rushed for 206 yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory. “We challenged them before the game," Barry said. "We put it upon them and told them, 'If you get the job done, we've got a good chance to win.' Kick off the week with the annual Homecoming Parade, which starts at 5 p.m. at Darien Community Park and ends at Hinsdale South’s stadium, where the Freshman/Sophomore Stinger Bowl begins at 6 p.m. Following the underclass Stinger Bowl, students will rally around a bonfire at 7 p.m. The Senior/Junior Stinger Bowl caps off the evening at 7:45 p.m. Cheer the Hornets’ as the girls volleyball team takes on Proviso East at home, starting at 6 p.m. in the main gym. Students should come to lunch armed with their dancing shoes for a DJ dance off in the school cafeteria. At 3 p.m., they’ll break to decorate the hallways for the rest of the week.
