Hinsdale Exec Donates Thousands in Gifts, Food to Struggling Area Families

Christmas came early for six HCS Family Services client families; two of the families live in Hinsdale.

More than a week after the pile of gifts arrived, Ellen Tucker was still shocked when she looked at the donations under the Christmas tree in her family’s Willowbrook home. “I’ll do anything for anybody,” said Tucker, a 43-year-old single mother of two and client of HCS Family Services in Hinsdale. “But I don’t expect anything back ever.” The Tuckers were one of six area families selected as recipients of a $5,000 Christmas from Gibson Consulting Group, LLC. The business consulting firm, led by founder and longtime Hinsdale resident Wes Gibson, partnered with HCS and decided to dedicate $30,000 that would’ve otherwise gone to a black-tie company Christmas party to give struggling DuPage County families a holiday to remember.  It turns out…

High School Students Christmas Shop for a Cause

Hinsdale Central clubs and teams adopted DuPage families supported by HCS Family Services and shopped for Christmas gifts the families otherwise could not afford.

Christmas arrived on Dec. 7 for 84 DuPage County families. HCS Family Services held a Christmas gift distribution at Hinsdale's Memorial Hall Wednesday for needy area families “adopted” by Hinsdale Central High School teams and clubs. HCS connected the families with the volunteering student groups, who then shopped for Christmas gifts based on the parents’ requests. HCS director of programs Kim Stephens said each family arrived Wednesday with a number. They were handed a turkey upon arrival at HCS and then handed over their ticket. “We run upstairs and grab their number and bring it down and they get a Christmas,” Stephens said. Hinsdale Central senior Corinne Smith represented both the Hinsdale Central poms team and the Ambassadors Club …

Self-Starting CHMS Students Collecting Goods for Local Food Shelf

After being inspired over the summer, the group plans to hold one food drive per month for HCS Family Services.

"Those who have must help those who have not." "Be the change you wish to see in the world." "Every morsel helps." A group of four Clarendon Hills Middle School (CHMS) students rattled off their favorite sayings as they talked about providing food for those in need, which for them has become an after-school activity. The students—Samantha Camden, Michael Cunningham, Spencer Cook, and Jacob Daugherty—are behind a school-wide effort to collect food donations each month for the HCS Family Services, a local food shelf that provides for needy people in Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Westmont, Willowbrook, and adjoining unincorporated areas.
