Doug Fuller Looking to Open Sports Bar in Downtown Hinsdale

The family-oriented bar and grill would take up a portion of the Fuller's Home and Hardware space, but only if a change is made to the village's liquor code first.

Doug Fuller said his Dips & Dogs customers often tell him he should open a sports bar in downtown Hinsdale where families can have an inexpensive meal and adults can enjoy a alcoholic beverage or two. Fuller’s going for it, but he and one of his partners say they need a change in the village’s liquor code first. The Village of Hinsdale Administration and Community Affairs (ACA) Committee discussed on May 6 Fuller’s idea to turn a portion of the Fuller’s Home & Hardware space into a family-oriented sports bar and grill, as well as the extension of liquor-service hours beyond 10:30 p.m. on weeknights and 12 a.m. on weekends that Fuller desires. The goal, Fuller said, is to have a restaurant like Palmer Place in La Grange for the people of …

Hinsdale's Savory Spice Shop Closes Its Doors

The store was open for 19 months in the heart of downtown Hinsdale at 42 S. Washington St.

Savory Spice Shop in downtown Hinsdale closed at the end of April, according to the store's Facebook page.  The store at 42 S. Washington St. was in business for 19 months after opening in October 2011 and holding its grand opening the following November. Savory Spice Shop's phone was disconnected when Patch called, and an email to owner David Trout has not been returned. The following message was posted on Savory Spice Shop's Facebook page April 30: Instead let's say until we meet again! Today we open our doors for the last time in Hinsdale. Two new locations are scheduled to open in Chicagoland in 2013. Lincoln Square (4753 N. Lincoln) opens its doors mid-summer in Chicago while a second location in the northern suburbs opens later in …

Downtown Gap Building Housing Hinsdale Artist's Mother's Day Show

The Maureen Claffy Fine Art Fair, which begins Thursday evening and runs through Sunday, will benefit two local nonprofits.

The doors of the vacant Gap building at the corner of 1st and Washington streets in downtown Hinsdale will be open throughout this Mother's Day weekend.  Hinsdale artist Maureen Claffy is selling her fine art, prints and jewelry from Thursday to Sunday and part of the proceeds will go to the District 181 Foundation and St. Isaac Jogues Council of Catholic Women's charity, "Women in Need." The show is called "With Love on Mother's Day: A Celebration of Home and Family." Claffy grew up and currently lives in Hinsdale. This weekend's show will be her biggest solo show to date, and though it was completely planned in only the last 10 days, the community has rallied through email and word of mouth.  It helps that the show's theme is something …

What Would New Downtown Hinsdale Development Look Like?

The Village of Hinsdale Plan Commission last week approved the site plan and exterior appearance for Garfield Crossing, which would fill the vacant space on 1st Street west of Garfield.

The Village of Hinsdale Plan Commission on April 10 gave its support to the site plan and exterior appearance of Garfield Crossing, the proposed two-story development that would fill the currently vacant space on the southwest corner of 1st and Garfield streets, and recommended the zoning and public safety (ZPS) committee does the same.  Patch obtained a couple of renderings of the proposed development from David Kennedy of PPK Architects, the firm that designed the mixed-use development that would house retail spaces on its first floor and a combination of retail and office spaces on its second floor. They can be seen above. Garfield Crossing would stretch from the corner of 1st and Garfield east to the existing set of buildings that …

Thanks for the comment. There actually is a parking lot planned behind the development. It can't be seen in these renderings supplied by the developer, but if you visit the Plan Commission documents at the below link and scroll WAY down (about 3/4 the way), you should see the site plan including parking. It appears there would be about 45 spots. http://villageofhinsdale.org/comm/pln/2013/…   more ›

Fox's On York Expected to Open Soon in Hinsdale

The restaurant's management says it's aiming for a late May or early June opening.

Nearly a year after the plan for a new Fox’s location in Hinsdale was announced, its opening appears to be approaching. Fox’s On York is aiming for a late May or early June opening at Gateway Square in Hinsdale, according to director of operations Jane Wilke. Wilke, who will oversee the new Hinsdale location in addition to the existing Orland Park and Mokena restaurants, said interior improvements are ongoing at the two-level space where Quizno’s and a hair salon once operated in the shopping center. “I’m looking forward to it,” Wilke said of the opening. “It’s going to be a beautiful location.” Fox’s received village approval last June to turn the Gateway Square space into the newest edition of the South Side chain, known for its pizza …

Trib’s Vettel on CiNe: 2 Stars, Burr Ridge's Peter Burdi ‘Rules Hinsdale’

The vaunted food critic visits Hinsdale’s new Peter Burdi restaurant in the old Hinsdale Theatre and has a lot of praise to offer.

A review by the Chicago Tribune’s Phil Vettel has appeared for Burr Ridge resident Peter Burdi’s new restaurant CiNe Modern Taqueria in downtown Hinsdale, praising the visuals of the dining room and the food alike and stating that the restaurant tones down Burdi’s typical European influences without sacrificing them altogether.  “Peter Burdi isn't yet the king of west suburban dining rooms, but he sure rules over downtown Hinsdale,” Vettel writes, citing also Il Poggiolo and Nabuki in addition to CiNe. He lauds CiNe chef Yanitzin Sanchez, writing that “she always pays attention to the visuals. Her red-onion soup is a playful nod to French onion soup… Chicken breast in mole negro is nothing new, but Sanchez's presentation—the breast topped …
