Argonne National Laboratory received a $120 million federal grant to create revolutionary battery technology that could help promote American energy independence.
The Argonne National Laboratory received a $120 million federal grant that could help slash dependence on foreign oil, U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Western Springs) announced Thursday. Argonne, a non-profit research lab operated by the University of Chicago for the Department of Energy, will devote the grant to developing revolutionary battery technology for transportation and the electric grid, according to a news release from Lipinski's office. The federal funding will be delivered over five years and "has the potential of creating a revolution in battery technology that slashes dependence on foreign oil and makes our region the worldwide leader in battery manufacturing," the news release stated. According to Medill Reports, Illinois' 3rd Congressional District representative is not making any public presidential endorsement for this November's election.
U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) did not publicly endorse Barack Obama for president during a recent interview by Medill Reports published Tuesday. The Democratic congressman has represented Illinois' 3rd Congressional District, which covers much of the southwest suburbs, since 2005. BNSF Railway paid tribute to U.S. military families during a special Holiday Express train ride on Sunday, Dec. 4. Service members and their families were treated to a half-hour train ride from Downers Grove to Chicago aboard vintage passenger cars decorated for the holidays. The BNSF Foundation also presented $10,000 to the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund and $10,000 to Operation Support Our Troops. Congresswoman Judy Biggert, R-13, and Congressman Dan Lipinski, D-3 were in attendance and addressed the families during the event. While on board the Holiday Express, families were treated to holiday snacks, given a commemorative holiday ornament and a visit by Santa.
