Three more counties have been cleared to have cameras inside their courthouses. The Illinois Supreme Court announced that cameras in courtrooms have been approved for the new 23rd Circuit, which included Kendall County and DeKalb County, and in Lake County in the 19th Circuit, according to a story in the Elgin Courier-News. According to the story, "Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has said he expects to have cameras operating in Kane courtrooms sometime this year." The Illinois Press Association has reported that is up to the chief judge in each the state's 23 circuits to decide whether to allow courtroom cameras. Patch catches you up on goings on at the DuPage County Judicial Center.
Wheaton—The expected Oct. 18 start of a murder trial in the 2009 stabbing death of Michael Scalzo was delayed after suspect Michael Delaney's attorney said new information relating to his client's medical history had surfaced. Delaney, who remains in DuPage County Jail, is charged with stabbing Scalzo four times in the chest and upper torso in what prosecutors claim was a premeditated attack. Delaney made threats to several people, including an ex-girlfriend, on June 19, 2009, at a Wheaton apartment complex, according to court records. Delaney acted in self-defense, his attorney has said. Delaney asked for his trial to be delayed after his attorney learned of a medical evaluation where Delaney was diagnosed with post traumatic stress …

Coming off a long holiday weekend, there are very few criminal cases with court dates this week. However, a couple of notable civil cases—one against a local college and another against a famous adult film star—will have hearings at the DuPage County Courthouse. Lisle—The lawsuit against Benedictine by the family of a former student is up for a hearing on July 5 when the school is going to ask for the judge to throw out the case. The school's dismissal motion basically argues technical problems without addressing allegations they took items belonging to Rachel Julius after her drug overdose. Naperville—The owners of Hollywood theaters wants a judge to enter a default judgment against porn star Jenna Jameson because neither she nor her …

Criminal trial scheduled for May in shooting death of Jason Dragos at Burr Ridge trucking company.
A Chicago man charged with the 2009 murder of Jason Dragos in Burr Ridge now faces a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Dragos' widow. John G. Gilbert, 47, has been in DuPage County Jail for nearly two years since his arrest in the Dragos killing. Tracy Dragos' lawsuit was filed Feb. 7, alleging Gilbert shot her husband to death. DuPage County prosecutors have said Gilbert shot Jason Dragos at Saia Motor and Freight, where the men worked, on Feb. 8, 2009.
