State Senator Kirk Dillard's Hinsdale Home Hit in String of Recent Burglaries

Dillard said Friday he's pushing for state regulations that would help police investigate residential burglaries in the Chicago suburbs that involve jewelry theft.

The Hinsdale home of state Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) is among those that have been burglarized this year and the senator says he's pushing for state legislation that will help local law enforcement investigate such burglaries.  "I am trying to curtail the number of residential burglaries which has swept through the western suburbs ... and other parts of the city," Dillard said during a Friday morning conference call with media members. Dillard said by talking with suburban police officials he has learned that most of the residential burglars that have victimized residents in Hinsdale and the surrounding area steal jewelry they quickly sell to cash-for-gold businesses. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24 A local business reported at 9:15 a.m. that more than $500 worth of its landscaping equipment had been stolen in the 16W200 block of South Frontage Road, police said. The stolen items, police said, were two backpack blowers. The case is currently under investigation. MONDAY, APRIL 22 Police said a resident of the 8800 block of County Line Road reported at 4:19 p.m. that forced entry had been made to the resident's home and several items, including some jewelry, were missing. Police did not provide any information about a suspect, and the case is currently under investigation. One of 23 Guns Stolen During Burglary Found in Burr Ridge Home: Police

Burr Ridge resident Daniel Swayka was also found to be in possession of a shotgun and 900 rounds of ammunition without a valid gun-owner's license, police said.

A Burr Ridge man was charged with possession of stolen property after police found him to be in possession of one of more than 20 guns stolen during a burglary last September, according to a release from the Burr Ridge Police Department. Daniel R. Swayka, 20, of the 16W200 block of 94th Street, Burr Ridge, surrendered to police Thursday afternoon. A warranted search of his home by police on Feb. 8 turned up a pistol that was among the items stolen from a Burr Ridge home during a Sept. 27 burglary in the 120 block of Circle Ridge. Sgt. Marc Loftus of the Burr Ridge Police Department said 23 firearms, a combination of handguns and rifles, were taken during the burglary, along with several electronics items. More Hinsdale ATM Trouble Reported to Police

A machine at a 2nd Street bank was damaged in an attempted burglary last week, according to the Hinsdale Police Department.

Around the time two Hinsdale banks reported ATM tampering, police said someone attempted to burglarize an ATM at US Bank, 21 W. 2nd St., by prying it open sometime between 10:33 a.m. Feb. 3 and 10 a.m. Feb. 4. A bank employee discovered scratches and pry marks on the machine on Feb. 4, and the incident was reported to the Hinsdale Police Department on Feb. 5. While the burglar did not successfully open the ATM, police said $800 in damage was done to the machine. Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said the incident is not related to the ATM tampering incidents reported by Northern Trust and Hinsdale Bank & Trust on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4, respectively. Police Investigating Burglary, 2 Attempted Break-ins in Hinsdale

The Hinsdale Police Department hopes residents in the area who have video surveillance systems will come forward.

The Hinsdale Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that took place in the 200 block of East Hickory Street Friday night between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to a police department release sent out Saturday. "Forced entry was made into the residence through a rear sliding door," the release reads. "Various pieces of jewelry were taken from a bedroom within the home." The release also detailed two attempted break-ins that took place in the same area last week. The first was reported in the 500 block of North County Line Road between 5:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Savvy police work led to the arrest of a man Clarendon Hills police officials said they believe burglarized two vehicles early Monday morning. Adam Rossal, 37, of the 10300 block of South Spaulding Avenue, Chicago, was charged with illegal trespass to railroad property, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia misdemeanors at 2:25 a.m. Monday after Sgt. Paul Dalen saw footprints in the snow around cars in the Blackhawk Heights neighborhood, observed Rossal near one of the cars, and, after Rossal fled, pursued and took him into custody in the 140 block of Ann Street.
