Redskins Sneak Into Turkey Bowl XIII

A quarterback sneak on fourth down and inches turns into deciding score.

The Redskins advanced to the Turkey Bowl XIII held on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Harvester Park after a 16-12 win over the Cardinals Monday night. Both teams are in the Burr Ridge Football League's 9 to 12-year-old Falcon League.

The underdog Cardinals gained a 6-0 lead on their first possession of the game when Ray Berg caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from team captain Sam Hojnar. Redskins' veteran quarterback Ryan Bergstrom led a 9-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown run by Bergstrom. Liam White's 2-point conversion gave the Redskins an 8-6 advantage at halftime.

Faced with a fourth and inches midway through the second half, a Redskins' quarterback sneak, intended to gain enough distance for a first down, turned into a 41-yard touchdown. Ball carrier Ryan Bergstrom managed to run through 6 Cardinal defenders at the line of scrimmage for the score. He also added the 2-point conversion for a 16-6 lead.

The Cardinals rallied to make the score 16-12 after a 34-yard double reverse touchdown run by Campbell Callam. The Cardinals last ditch scoring effort almost yielded the victory. Sam Hojnar rolled out to the right from the Redskins 5-yard line and just before he released his pass, Bergstrom made the tackle, ending the game. Hojnar's pass landed in the Cardinals' Sam Wojick's hands in the end zone, but Hojnar was ruled down and the Redskins won 16-12.
