Burr Ridge's Alysa Straub Named Nazareth's 'Female Athlete of the Year'

Alysa Straub qualified for the state tournament four times playing varsity tennis at Nazareth Academy, and is a nationally ranked player.

Burr Ridge tennis player Alysa Straub has been named Nazareth Academy's "Female Athlete of the Year" for 2012-13, according to a release sent out Thursday morning. 

Straub qualified for the state tournament in all four of her years. In 2009 she competed in singles, and in 2010, 2011 and 2012, she competed in doubles with partner Alexia Petrovic.

Straub and Petrovic finished in second place in 2011, and finished fifth in 2010 and top-eight in 2012. 

Straub is the daughter of Burr Ridge Mayor Mickey Straub. 

The Nazareth release reads as follows:

Alysa Straub, of Burr Ridge, has played varsity girls tennis all four years at Nazareth, qualifying for state competition multiple times. In 2012, Straub, along with her partner Lexie Petrovic, finished top eight in state in the doubles competition. Straub is also an ESCC Medalist and member of the all-state team. She has received a scholarship to play tennis at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Division I program. 

In addition to leading the Nazareth program, Straub travels the country to play tournaments with the United States Tennis Association. She is a nationally ranked player.
