Boys State Tennis: Hinsdale Central Atop Team Standings After Day Two

Martin Joyce and the Red Devils doubles team of Alex Hagermoser and Peter Heneghan have reached the IHSA State Tournament semifinals.

's boys tennis state qualifiers won six of eight matches Friday and sent competitors to Saturday's semifinals in both the singles and doubles tournament.

Freshman Martin Joyce advanced in the singles tournament, while the doubles team of Alex Hagermoser and Peter Heneghan (both juniors) advanced as well. 

As a team, the Red Devils have a tournament-high 40 points. New Trier is in second with 34 points and Lake Forest is in third with 28.

After winning three straight matches on Thursday to open the tournament, Joyce beat Lake Forest's Peter Tarwid Friday in the fourth round, 7-5, 6-4, before dispatching New Trier's Alex Galoustin, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Joyce will face Deerfield's Jason Brown in his semifinal match Saturday.

Hagermoser and Heneghan, meanwhile, dropped the first set to Boylan Catholic's Adam Dahlberg and Max Samstag in the fourth round but rallied to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win. They had an easier time with Alton's Patrick Logan and Patrick Spain, who they beat 6-3, 6-3.

Hagermoser and Heneghan will face Edwardsville's Justin Leskera and Cameron Randall in the semis.

Senior Sam Bloom lost to Stevenson's Jeremy Bush in the quarters Friday after beating Dave Bacalla of Niles North in the fourth round.

Bloom will face Warren's Kristiyan Trukov in Saturday's consolation quarters.

The Red Devils doubles team of Chase Hamilton and Michael Lorenzini also fell in the quarterfinals. New Trier's Alex Mang and Arthur Ozga got the best of a 7-6(5), 6-4 match. Hamilton and Lorenzini beat Highland Park's Tom Haile and Andrew Zessar in the fourth round.

The doubles pair will face Morton's Trent Reiman and Grant Reiman in Saturday's consolation quarters.
