Key to Awesomeness: With the Red Devils' football season over, Anlauf is focusing on basketball. "We're off to a really good start," he said. "Last year, we got off to a rough start, and we got a new head coach last year. The second year around [with our coach], we're getting used to the system." The Red Devils are currently 5-2 this season, and are preparing to play in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, which Anlauf, who mainly plays shooting guard, called one of Illinois' best.

Most of Anlauf's favorite high school memories have to do with sports; he cites this year's homecoming win over Lyons Township as one of his favorite football memories. "It was a big win for us," he said. "Since it was our last homecoming, it was pretty exciting and special." He hasn't been able to pin down a favorite basketball memory - yet: "Hopefully, there are still a lot of good ones to come."

What’s Next: Anlauf is waiting to hear back from colleges, with the University of Michigan at the top of his list (his mother graduated from Michigan, and his sister is currently a senior there). He has also spoken to some schools, including Duke University, about playing football as a walk-on. He's also looking forward to experiencing the variety college has to offer academically. "I'm probably going to be undecided my freshman year," Anlauf said. "The curriculum is a lot different from high school to college, and I'm looking forward to narrowing [my interests] down." For now, though, he's focused on making the best of his season basketball season. "I want to do the best as I can with it being my last season."
