Viewfinder: Elm School Students Carry on Civil War Week Tradition

Fifth graders at Elm School reenact Civil War moments.

Matt Haeger and Karin Johnson continued the tradition of Civil War Week by taking their fifth grade students back in time.

Today’s activity sent the Elm School students through interactive stations pertaining to different wartime topics, such as cooking, letter writing, medical practices and the use of photographs.

All of the students had a turn at each station and collected currency for their knowledge. The students were split into two groups, the Union and Confederates, and given the task of earning more money than the other.

They began the afternoon with an announcement that President Abraham Lincoln had been reelected.
