Tax Relief Coming to D107 Residents

Pleasantdale School Board pays off some debt.

Residents of Pleasantdale School District 107 should see some tax relief in the fall after the Board of Education approved a $750,000 debt service abatement of construction bonds.

Superintendent Mark Fredisdorf said the district had sufficient finances to pay off the bonds. Doing so he said will pass some tax relief on to district residents. Fredisdorf said district residents should see some relief beginning in the fall.

Board members also voted to continue a 1998 transportation agreement with St. John of the Cross. Under the terms of the agreement the district provides transportation services for students living within the boundaries of Pleasantdale School District, but who attend St. John of the Cross. The provision of the route costs $15,000 and was extended for one year.

“This is good all around. Public school districts have an obligation to transport kids in the district to private schools in the district. This will provide door-to-door service for these students,” Fedisdorf said.

With a possibility of state transportation funds for public school districts being decreased next year, Fredisdorf said the board will have to examine the district’s finances before they review the agreement in 2013.
