Gower 62 Buys New Bus After Crash

The 72-passenger bus replaces a vehicle that was totaled after a May crash.

Insurance will cover all but approximately $7,000 of a school bus purchase Gower Elementary School District 62 authorized Tuesday, according to Superintendent Steve Griesbach.

The 2006 Blue Bird bus seats 72, just like a 2004 bus that got totaled in May when it collided with another Gower school bus on Quincy Street.

The 2006 bus, with 19,000 miles on it, was priced at $43,650. Griesbach said insurance also will cover repairs for a 2001 bus damaged in the May accident, and that bus will be used as a spare for the next five years once repaired.
