Villa Taj Mansion in Burr Ridge Finally Sold for $3.1 Million

The massive Villa Taj mansion at the corner of Plainfield and County Line roads in Burr Ridge was sold in November for $3.1 million, according to the Chicago Tribune, years after construction on the home was completed in 2009.

The original asking price for the home, the Trib reported, was $25.1 million. A bank trust purchased the house, backed by a family that the Trib reported is not a celebrity family.

"With a gold Jerusalem limestone exterior and a neo-Byzantine Moorish revival architectural style, the mansion, which was completed in 2009 and sits on 3.5 acres at a prominent intersection in Burr Ridge, is hard to miss," the Trib's Bob Goldsborough writes.

Construction on the house began in 2005 for owner Dr. Husam Aldairi, a dentist. It has never been lived in, and since it was completed, Aldairi has lost it to foreclosure. 

In March 2011, Patch reported that a pipe burst at the property, flooding three floors. 

“I would describe the damage as very extensive,” Village of Burr Ridge community development director Doug Pollock said at the time. “Half of the interior has seen damage to the point that the wall finishings and flooring will have to be removed and replaced.”

Patch also reported a forced entry to the home in 2012.

The Taj houses a ballroom, conservatory, library, 20-car garage and an "imperial bedroom suite" of more than 2,500 square feet. The home also has some more exotic features such as Italian marble, Jerusalem limestone and gold-leaf wall detailing.
