Straub: Propaganda, Politics Played Roles in Rejection of Burr Ridge Hotels

Straub discussed the withdrawn Odyssey Hotels' proposal during his "Friday Wrap" YouTube address last week.

The now-withdrawn plan to build two new hotels in Burr Ridge was "a golden opportunity lost," according to Burr Ridge Mayor Mickey Straub.

Straub discussed the Burr Ridge Plan Commission's unanimous rejection of Odyssey Hotels' plan to build a Hampton Inn and Suites and a Fairfield Inn and Suites at 15W150 S. Frontage Rd. during his weekly "Friday Wrap" YouTube address, which can be viewed in full above.

The mayor said he believes three factors contributed to the plan's rejection.

"There was personal preferences of residents, which I can understand, but [it was] also partially due to some propaganda and, I'm afraid, some politics," Straub said.

The two hotels would have been five stories tall. The Plan Commission meeting on Aug. 5 was held in front of an "overflowing crowd," in Straub's words, of residents, many of whom made public comments against the development according to The Doings.

Straub said he plans to release a separate YouTube address this week to further discuss the topic.

"We really do need to start working together towards a common vision," the mayor said.
