Share Your Reaction: Blagojevich Guilty on 17 of 20 Counts

No sentencing date set yet but prison term likely. A local lawmaker shared her reaction with us. What do you think of the jury's decision?

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was found guilty Monday afternoon of trying to sell President Barack Obama's Senate seat.

Blagojavich was found guilty on 17 of 20 federal corruption charges.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, U.S. District Judge James Zagel did not immediately set a date for sentencing, but he said Blagojevich can’t travel outside the northern district of Illinois without his permission.

Blagojevich is the fourth Illinois governor in the last 40 years to be found guilty of crimes.

“Patti and I are obviously very disappointed,” Blagojevich said outside the courtroom after the verdict was announced, according to the Sun-Times. “I, quite frankly, am stunned.”

Senate Majority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) released a statement that said it's time to "put the politics of the past behind us."

“It was clear that Rod Blagojevich conspired to use the Governor's office for personal gain. He inflicted real, permanent damage on the state during his six years in office. Unfortunately, future generations will be paying for his Administration for years to come," Radogno said in the release. "But some will want to use this verdict to close the door on reform. Instead, it is our job as elected officials to make sure the public has confidence in the integrity of their government. We all have a responsibility to send a clear signal that Illinoisans do not need to tolerate even the appearance of conflicts of interest by elected officials."

Former Illinois governors George Ryan, Dan Walker and Otto Kerner also have been convicted.

What do you think of the jury's decision? Do you think Blagojevich should serve a lengthy prison term? Now that he has been found guilty, do you think it was well-spent taxpayer money to prosecute him?
