Oak Park, River Forest Have Highest Voter Turnout in Suburban Cook County

Voters in Oak Park and River Forest came out in mass to vote of President Obama in the election this year with the highest voter turnout in suburban Cook County.

Voters in Oak Park and River Forest come out in droves to cast their ballot in the 2012 election on Nov. 6.

According to results released by the Cook County Clerk's office, voters in both communities took their civic duty to heart on Election Day and had the highest voter turnout in suburban Cook County.

Oak Park Township led in voter turnout with 80 percent of registered voters casting their ballot. River Forest Township came in second with 76 percent of registered voters voting in the election.

Support for the president was high in both Oak Park and River Forest. The Obama/Biden ticket won every precinct in 2012 by a wide margin in Oak Park and in River Forest.

In Oak Park, 82 percent of voters voted to re-elect the president, compared with Romney, who only got about 15 percent of the vote.

The race was slightly closer in River Forest, with about 60 percent of the vote going for Obama and about 38 percent of voters choosing Mitt Romney.

Compared to 2008

Voting was down slightly compared to the 2008 presidential election. In Oak Park Township 29,337 ballots were cast in 2008, compared to 27,645 cast in 2012.

In River Forest Township, 6,205 voters cast their ballot in 2008, compared to 5,812 this year.

In both townships, votes cast for Obama were roughly the same as in the 2008 election. Obama actually did a little better in Oak Park this time around.
