Burr Ridge Trustees Grela, Wott Won't Seek Re-Election in 2013

The two trustees announced their decisions at Monday night's Village of Burr Ridge Board of Trustees meeting.

Trustees Bob Grela and Maureen Wott said they will not be running to keep their Burr Ridge Board of Trustees seats during next spring's municipal election.

"I am not seeking re-election," Grela said at Monday night's board meeting. "At the end of this term, May 1 of next year, someone else will be sitting in this chair."

Wott, who is currently finishing up her second term as a trustee after serving on the Plan Commission and Pathway Commission dating back to the early 1990s, said seeing Burr Ridge develop into a more tight-knit community with events like Jingle Mingle and the Concert on the Green series has "warmed [her] heart."

"To see our village come from what it used to be twenty-some years ago, to have it grow into such a beautiful community ... it really just makes my years of service very rewarding," Wott said Monday night.

Grela agreed, saying the way the events have "manifested and grown" has been great for the village.

"I think this is a dream come true," he said.

Grela is also finishing his second term on the board of trustees. Before that, he chaired the plan commission for nearly nine years. During that time, he said, the Burr Ridge Village Center project was developed and replaced what was an open field east of County Line Road.

"That is just one of the things that I am very porud to be a part of," Grela said.

With Grela and Wott not running, it means three trustee seats will be up for grabs on the April 9, 2013, ballot. Trustee Bob Sodikoff announced Monday night that he's giving up his trustee seat to run for mayor against Gary Grasso.

Those interested in running for Board of Trustees must file their paperwork with the village between Dec. 17 and Dec. 24.
