VIDEO: Burr Ridge Police Send Off One of Their Own

Area police gathered in front of the Burr Ridge Police Department to surprise Sgt. Bryan DeYoung on his last day.

Officers from police departments in the area gathered in front of the station to surprise Sgt. Bryan DeYoung Tuesday afternoon. It was his last day on the job, and they came for his final "10-42," a designation that refers to a police officer going off duty. DeYoung is retiring from the department, that his father founded, after 24 years.

Officers lined up in front of the building to say goodbye and to take part in a police escort for him as he left the station for the last time.

It was a windy day, so some of Police Chief John Madden's remarks were obscured by the wind, but we subtitled them so that they could still be included in the video.

Sgt. DeYoung and his wife are leaving the area to move to Fort Wayne, Indiana so they can be closer to their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Earlier this week, we ran a .
