$43,000 Worth of Items Missing from Home
A resident from the 10 block of Charleston Road in Hinsdale reported that one set of earrings, one iPad and one Rolex wristwatch worth a combined $43,300 were taken from her home between May 24 and June 27.
Workers have had authorized access to the home since Jan. 2, Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said, and police are currently investigating those workers.
The priciest missing item is a set of $35,000 Sidney Garber diamond earrings, which were last seen by the homeowner on May 24. The Rolex wristwatch was worth $7,200 and presumed taken June 2, and the $1,100 iPad hasn't been seen since June 27.
TUESDAY, JULY 31
Custom-built Bike Taken
A $2,500 custom-built mountain bike left unlocked in the rack outside the Hinsdale Community Pool was taken between 12:25 p.m. and 3:50 p.m.
The owner of the bike is a 13-year-old male. The bike is described as a black men's Specialized StumpJumper with white lettering.
Wodka said that bike thefts at the pool have been down so far this summer. Typically there are about a dozen such offenses; this year there have been only three.
SUNDAY, JULY 30
$11,000 Ring Stolen
A resident in the 500 block of Warren Terrace reported a diamond ring worth $11,000 was taken from her home between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., when the resident was home and appliance workers had authorized access.
There was no sign of forced entry. Wodka said no arrest has been made, but the department is interviewing the appliance workers. The ring was in the master bedroom.
Wodka said there is no connection between this theft and the Charleston theft noted above.
