Here's a round-up of recent, bizarre police report items from the area.

NAPERVILLE

Pen Punching Power

Police said a white male, 5-foot-10, weighing 175 to 180 pounds between 35 to 50 years old came into an eye doctor's office looking for an employee who no longer worked at the office. The man became upset once he discovered she didn't work there anymore and then punched a container of pens, which sent pens flying in the air. He then left the office in the 1900 block of Springbrook Square in a black Ford Fusion.

This Time, the Skunk Suffers

A 55-year-old Woodridge man is accused of starving a trapped skunk, police said. Roger Knott, of the first block of Penny Royal Place, was charged with cruelty to animals at about 6:53 p.m. July 11. He trapped the skunk on his property and allowed it to starve to death in the trap, according to a police report.

Knott's next court date for this case is Aug. 6, according to DuPage County records.

ST. CHARLES

Shoplifter Shut Down

A man who police caught wearing three pairs of jeans and a hammer tucked in his waistband faces retail theft and other charges after he fled loss-prevention personnel at a local department store during an attempt to detain him until police arrived. Adnan Trey Shariff, 36, of the 1000 block of Plum Grove Road, Schaumburg, was charged at 5:58 p.m. July 24 at Kohl’s, 3840 E. Main St., with retail theft, criminal trespass, and possession of a key from a coin-operated machine.

Police were called to the store on a report of a retail theft and had fled before officers arrived. Kohl’s personnel told police that Shariff took three pairs of jeans into a fitting room. After he left, store personnel entered the fitting room to discover a security device and sales tags on the fitting room floor. He fled when confronted after he left the store and was believed to be hiding in a cornfield or wooded area near Charlestowne Mall, sparking a search. Shariff was in custody within 15 minutes of the arrival of a K-9 unit. He posted $150 cash bond and was released pending an Aug. 8 court appearance.

GLEN ELLYN

Thirsty Thief I

Someone entered an unlocked garage and stole a case of beer on the 200 block of Crest Road. The incident occurred sometime between 8 p.m. July 17 and 8:30 a.m. July 18.

Thirsty Thief II

Someone entered an unlocked garage and stole several bottles of wine on the 200 block of North Park Boulevard. The incident occurred sometime between 8:30 p.m. July 17 and 7:30 a.m. July 18.

GENEVA

Super Grumpy

A Wheaton man who fell asleep in the Geneva Police Department lobby while waiting for a ride home from police ended up attacking the officer who woke him up, according to Geneva police reports.

Geneva police arrested William Buell, 31, of Wheaton on charges of battery and battery insulting or provoking contact in the Geneva police station, 20 Police Plaza, at about 7:20 p.m. July 21, reports said.

Truly Heartless

Someone damaged landscaping flowers in front of Living Well Cancer Center, 442 Williamsburg Ave., Geneva, sometime between noon July 21and 7:30 a.m. July 22, reports said. When the employee arrived at work in the morning, she discovered several wooden benches had been overturned and about 10 landscaping flowers had been uprooted and thrown about the courtyard. The value of the landscaping repair work was unknown at the time of the report.

BATAVIA

Gimme Those!

Police confiscated fireworks in the 1800 block of Mill Street at 6:42 p.m. July 27, according to a report.

CLARENDON HILLS

Kids Get Cagey

A group of juveniles were reported at 8:41 p.m. July 10 to be on top of the batting cages on the 100 block of Walker Avenue. Police saw a group of about 20 kids playing in the field with two parents nearby. No one was on top of the cages when police arrived, but the kids did admit to being on a cage roof briefly, according to a report. The officer told them all to stay off the cages. All the kids agreed and many of them apologized, the report said.
