DOWNERS GROVE

$41K in Jewelry Stolen During Downers Grove Home Burglary

Nearly $41,000 in fine jewelry was stolen during a home burglary in Downers Grove on Saturday, police said.

Officers responded to a home in the 1500 block of Snowberry Court around 9:54 p.m., after the owners reported a residential burglary, according to the report. Upon their arrival, the victim told police he and his wife had been gone between 7:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. When they went upstairs, the dresser drawers were open in three bedroom, and several items appeared to be missing, police said.

More than a dozen pieces of jewelry valued at nearly $41,000 were taken from the home. Among the stolen items were four watches valued at $17,700, a $4,000 tennis bracelet, a $3,000 sapphire and diamond necklace, a $4,000 pearl necklace, $1,500 topaz earrings and $2,450 pair of sunglasses, police said.

A $200 blanket and $20 pillow case were also stolen, according to the report.

Found Your Purse—And Your Bong

A 19-year-old La Grange woman was issued a local ordinance citation for possession of drug paraphernalia at 3:27 p.m. after coming to the Western Springs Police Department to claim a found purse that contained a glass smoking pipe used for drugs, police said.

Food Fight Versus House

A resident of the 700 block of South Catherine Avenue reported at 12:02 p.m. that his house had been “bombed with all different [types] of food,” including cherries, sometime between Wednesday and Thursday. No permanent damage was reported.

Parking Dispute Turns Nasty

A resident of the 900 block of La Grange Road reported at 12:43 p.m. that a neighbor had attempted to sabotage his car by placing nails underneath the tires. Police ascertained that it was due to an ongoing parking dispute and referred them to their landlord.

CLARENDON HILLS

Pumpkin Shatters Car Window

A resident from the 300 block of Ruby Street reported at 8:58 a.m. that between 1:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. someone broke one of the rear windows on the resident's car while it was parked in the driveway.

Police said it appeared the offender threw a pumpkin at the window because pumpkin remnants were on and around the car. There are no suspects.

HINSDALE

House Guests Suspected in Jewelry Theft from Madison Street Home

A resident from the 10 block of South Madison Street reported on Nov. 25 that several pieces of jewelry were missing from the home. The resident believed they were stolen between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 9, when two acquaintances were in the home, police said.

The total value of the missing jewelry is not yet known because the resident is still compiling a comprehensive list. However, police said two watches, one wedding band and one gold ring are among the missing items. There were no signs of forced entry to the home and police are currently investigating.

Police are not releasing any details on the acquaintances or their relationships to the victim at this time.

BURR RIDGE

Man Charged with 2 DUIs in 5 Days

Timothy Brady, 63, of the 6100 block of Keller Drive, Burr Ridge, was charged with DUI for the second time in five days after police said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop in the 6100 block of Keller Drive at 11:33 a.m.

Brady, who was charged with DUI at 11:36 a.m. Nov. 15, was also charged on Nov. 20 with violation of bail bond, failure to signal, failure to yield and failure to appear in court on DUI charges.

After refusing a breath test, police said Brady complained he felt ill. He was transported to an area hospital and submitted to a DUI kit, with results still pending. After he was released from the hospital, Brady was transported to DuPage County Jail.

DARIEN

Darien Man Charged in Police Seizure of 600 Pounds of Marijuana

A Darien man was one of five people charged in a police sting that netted about 600 pound of marijuana last week. 

Dean A. Dziuba, 55, of the 1100 block of Lodgepole Court in Darien, was charged with cannabis trafficking, unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis.
