New Facility Provides Needed Space for Burr Ridge Police

The state-of-the-art station has more cells, more space for records and a community room.

Bad guys beware.

As of last Friday, the new Burr Ridge Police Station is in full operation providing the force's 28 sworn officers with more lock-up cells and interrogation rooms, heightened in-house security and state-of-the-art equipment.

"The new facility is allowing us to operate at a higher level of efficiency," said Police Chief John Madden.

The Burr Ridge Police Department traded in its 7,000 square feet of dark and cramped office space for 19,000 square feet of spacious working quarters. Designed by Williams Architects Ltd., a Carol Stream-based firm, the building features high ceilings, soaring windows and wood and stone accents. A large community room has been added and will be available for public use.

"I'm happy about the expanded space," said Sgt. Marc Loftus. "In the old space we were tripping all over each other."

The Police Department moved into the Village Hall building in the mid-'80s and, as the force grew, the department had less space to accommodate mounting police records and equipment. The new station is located at 77th Street and County Line Road, across from Village Hall.

The grand total for the facility was just over $6 million—which, according to Mayor Gary Grasso, was under the initial estimates.

Building this facility "will not be a strain on the taxpayers of Burr Ridge," Grasso said at Sunday's ribbon-cutting ceremony. A crowd of about 50 people joined the mayor for the ceremony and a tour of the station.

The sale of land no longer used by the village is expected pay for the facility, in addition to condo fees and cash the village set aside for the project. Until the land is sold, a three-year loan has been secured.
