Man Fakes Armed Robbery Call to Get Gas Faster: Police

The man wanted gas, and he wanted it NOW.

Running out of gas can be distressing—but Burr Ridge police said a Chicago man took things a little too far when he tried to get their attention Feb. 23 by reporting an armed robbery.

Lee B. Alley, 23, of the 6100 block of South Cottage Grove, called 911 to report the "crime" around 2:14 a.m. from the 100 block of Burr Ridge Parkway, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, however, they said there was no robber. Alley had merely run out of gas and thought the robbery call would bring the police faster.
