DuPage County Sheriff to Honor Fallen Heroes Today

Two DuPage County Sheriff's officers who were killed while transporting a prisoner will be recognized this morning.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office will be holding a police officer memorial service this morning to honor law enforcement professionals who gave their lives in the line of duty.

The memorial service will be conducted by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard at 11:30 a.m. at the Police and Fire Memorial at the south end of the DuPage County Complex (501 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton).

The Sheriff’s Office will be honoring two of its own fallen heroes, who will be added to the DuPage County Police and Fire Memorial that is located on the grounds of the DuPage County Complex.

Chief Deputy Gordon Leonard and Deputy Ralph Manning Hoy both lost their lives while transporting a prisoner on September 27, 1929. We also have received confirmation they will be added to the Illinois Police Officers Memorial in Springfield and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC.

During the ceremony, the Honor Guard will post the colors as well as present a wreath at the memorial to honor the fallen heroes. Additionally, there will be a brief prayer and a moment of silence for reflection and remembrance.
