Crash Reports Turned Over in Area Crash That Resulted in 1 Death, Felony Charges

Burr Ridge resident Nicholas Puccinelli, 20, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence after a two-car crash that left an Orland Park man dead.

A crash reconstruction report has been turned over to prosecutors and the defense attorney of a 20-year-old Burr Ridge man who faces felony charges stemming from an early morning Palos car crash that left an Orland Park man dead.

In the brief status hearing Nicholas Puccinelli, 20, appeared before Judge Joseph Hynes as attorneys exchanged what could be the final piece of discovery in the case.

Puccinelli's attorney Chris Cronson confirmed to the judge that he has received a copy of the full crash reconstruction report, which is believed to be the final document of discovery unless a 911 call was found to be preserved.

Puccinelli was charged with aggravated driving under the influence after a March crash at 105th and LaGrange Road in Palos Township left John Anagnopoulos, 64, of Orland Park, dead.

Puccinelli was heading south on LaGrange when he drove his 2002 GMC Denali into the northbound lane and crashed into Anagnopoulos' 2002 Nissan Sentra, police said.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Amari Dawson said at a prior hearing that the impact sent the Sentra through a guard rail.

Tests performed on Puccinelli at the hospital after the crash revealed his blood-alcohol level was .215, more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit, Dawson said at the earlier hearing. He also tested positive for cocaine, marijuana, amphetamines, barbiturates and other drugs, she said.

In a statement to police, Puccinelli acknowledged drinking and ingesting both marijuana and Xanax, Dawson said.

Puccinelli is currently free on $250,000 bond. Another status hearing is set for Dec. 2.
