Report: Burr Ridge Student Killed In Crash on I-55

Reports say the crash happened around midnight this morning.

Pantagraph.com is reporting that a 21-year-old Illinois State University student from Burr Ridge was killed early this morning in a crash on I-55 in McClean County. According to the report, Thomas M. Sarwark, 21, of Burr Ridge was pronounced dead at around 1:52 a.m. this morning.

NBC's WEEK reports that Sarwark was driving a pickup that entered the highway from the Heyworth-Mclean ramp and collided with a semi.

Illinois State University issued a statement to all students expressing condolescences over Sawark's passing early this morning.

"[Sawark] was attending classes this semester and had signed up for classes for the fall semester," Jay Groves, director of media relations for ISU, told Patch. "[We are reaching out to the family to see] if there is any way we can help from this perspective, collecting belongings, etc."

No word yet as to whether a memorial will be held on campus or locally.
