Burr Ridge Resident Charged With DUI, Attempting to Elude Police

The following information was provided by the Burr Ridge Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

At about 10:20 p.m. on June 15, a officer noticed someone in a car in after hours. The officer talked to the person in the car, who told him that he was leaving after having been in a pavilion in the park with some of his friends. 

The officer said that he smelled a strong odor of burnt cannabis coming from the car during the conversation and found a bag containing a green leafy substance in a bag and some drug paraphernalia.

Thomas J. Dlugopolski, 20, of 15W734 74th Street in , was charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia and released on bond at 12:22 am. He took a cab home, because police told him he could not come back for his car until the following day.

At about 12:54 a.m., another officer on patrol in the area of the park observed who appeared to be the same man driving on 71st Street away from the park. The officer tried to stop the car, but it sped away. The officer said he could not pursue the car in the interest of public safety. 

Police continued to watch the area and saw the man again, driving south on Soper from Madison Street.

"With the combined efforts of three other officers they were able to safely stop the vehicle this time and take the driver into custody," said Burr Ridge Police in a media announcement about the incident.

Dlugopolski was then charged with driving under the influence of drugs, attempting to flee/elude police, having no insurance, speeding and squealing his tires. According to the police media announcment, the charges came two days before Dlugopolski's 21st birthday on June 21.
