Burr Ridge Police Officials Honored with Patriot Award

The award is given by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and is meant for employers and supervisors who make an effort to support employees who serve in the National Guard.

Burr Ridge Police Chief John Madden and Deputy Chief Tim Vaclav were each with presented the Patriot Award on Sept. 10 by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

"This is not an employer-wide award, but rather one that recognizes supervisors and bosses nominated by a Guardsman or Reservist employee for support provided directly to the nominator," the ESGR website reads. "The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed."

Burr Ridge Officer Brian Gutierrez is a National Guardsman, and is actually preparing for deployment to Afghanistan later this fall, Vaclav said.
