One person was killed and two more were in critical condition following a car accident Wednesday afternoon in an area of unincorporated Lemont bordering Burr Ridge.
ABC News reports that the crash took place south of Bluff Road on southbound Route 83. According to ABC, two people were driving in a sedan, and one was killed.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the person who died was a passenger in one of two vehicles involved.
Route 83 in the vicinity of the accident remained closed as of 7 p.m. following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The Trib reported Wednesday that three people had to be extricated from two vehicles, according to Tri-State Deputy Fire Chief Jack Mancione. The Trib said a passenger in one of the two vehicles was dead when responders arrived on the scene at about 3:06 p.m.
"Mancione said police were still at the scene reconstructing the crash to determine what occurred, but he believes that one of the vehicles slammed into the side of the other vehicle," the Trib reported.
The two critically injured persons were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, ABC reports.
