Hands Off My Medicare MoveOn Rally
West Suburban MoveOn will host a "Hands off My Medicare" rally on Wednesday, April 27, at 4:30 pm outside the office of Representative Judy Biggert, located at 6262 S. 83 (Kingery Highway) in Willowbrook. The event will last about an hour.
Rep. Biggert voted to dismantle Medicare earlier this year and is home on recess from April 18 through May 1. Quoting a recent column on the GOP plan for Medicare, "Medicare is a government-run insurer that pays the health-care costs of all senior citizens. Under Ryan's plan, senior citizens would be given vouchers that they could use toward private insurance. Poor seniors would get more-generous vouchers, and rich seniors would get less-generous vouchers." (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/08/paul_ryans_plan_would_end_medi.html) A majority of Americans, regardless of political viewpoint, oppose the dismantling of Medicare or Medicaid to balance the budget.
