Loyola Burr Ridge Gains Pediatric Spine Surgery Expert

Haluk Altiok, MD, has brought his expertise in pediatric orthopaedic surgery to Loyola University Health System. Renowned for his studies in the treatment of spina bifida patients and pediatric hip dysplasia and limb deformities, Altiok will see patients at the Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge. He also is a lecturer in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

His work has been published extensively in medical journals including the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, American Journal of Orthopaedics ,The Spine Journal and Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research.

He is a sought-after presenter and speaker having presented several times at the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America’s annual conferences as well as the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Conference. He has lectured on trends in spina bifida at the Spina Bifida Symposium in Chicago and presented at the World Congress for Spina Bifida on the subject of tethered cord and spinal deformity.

He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North American, the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also serves on the Spina Bifida Association of Illinois’ Professional Advisory Council.

Altiok earned his medical degree from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara Turkey. He completed residencies in orthopaedic surgery at S.S.K. Tepecik Hospital in Izmir, Turkey, and at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. He completed fellowships in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Shriners Hospital for Children, Chicago Unit and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite Hospital. He also completed an International Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
