News Alert: 5 Injured After Metra, Amtrak Trains Collide

Low-speed collision involving train No. 1242 slows traffic into Union Station.

Chicago Breaking News is reporting that at least five people were hurt in a low-speed collision involving a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train from Aurora and an Amtrak train.

Metra officials told Chicago Breaking News the accident happened at the south end of the station, between tracks 2 and 4 and involved train No. 1242.

Metra reported that train No. 1256, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:45 a.m., and train No. 1258, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:49 a.m. were stopped due to the accident involving the Amtrak train.

Because of the accident, all train traffic entering or leaving from the south side of the station (BNSF and SWS) was halted by the Chicago Fire Department.
At 9:58 a.m. Metra announced that train traffic in and out of Union Station had resumed, using limited tracks. Metra said it anticipated all trains would begin moving again shortly.
