Burr Ridge Veteran's Observation Leads to New Law

Residents of Illinois' veterans facilities now have the same voting options and assistance that are offered at state veterans facilities and nursing homes.

Residents at Illinois’ five federal veterans facilities will be guaranteed the assistance they need to vote, now that legislation sponsored by State Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) has been signed into law. “Military veterans have fought and died to ensure we all have the right to vote,” Radogno said.

Senate Bill 98 provides residents at federal veterans facilities the same voting options and assistance that is offered to residents at state veterans facilities and nursing homes. Radogno introduced the legislation in response to concerns raised by Edward McCambridge, a Burr Ridge resident and Armed Forces veteran.

“While volunteering at Hines VA Hospital, Mr. McCambridge discovered that the veterans at federal VA hospitals do not receive the same voting assistance as residents at state veterans facilities or nursing homes,” Radogno explained. “I want to thank Mr. McCambridge for shining light on this issue. it’s imperative our veterans receive the assistance they need to cast their ballot on Election Day, be it through absentee or onsite voting.”
