UPDATED: Starbucks to Re-Open Friday, Beer and Wine Coming

The Starbucks in Burr Ridge's Village Center is not only getting a new look, but will have several added menu options when it re-opens.

*UPDATED: 12:06 p.m. June 28

in 's Village Center is scheduled to re-open Friday. 's only coffee shop has been closed for renovations while it underwent a makeover and added an outdoor seating area. Starbucks addicts have been anxiously awaiting its scheduled re-opening on June 29, and finishing touches were being put on the location's new sign Tuesday.

Savory snacks will be added to the menu, along with beer and wine mid-July. The addition of beer and wine to the menu will make the Burr Ridge store the second store outside the Pacific Northwest to add beer and wine to the menu.

According to Starbucks spokesperson Alisa Martinez, the seven stores in the Pacific Northwest that currently serve beer and wine have experienced great success. Starbucks told Nation's Restaurant News in December that stores testing the new menu have shown double-digit sales increases after 4 p.m.

"This is something customers have been asking for," said Martinez. "We are providing a need for those who might not want to make a restaurant reservation."

Martinez could not say the exact date in July that Burr Ridge residents can expect to be able to order beer and wine, but did say that residents can expect a new curated menu when they do.

"This is the same menu that we are rolling out in Schaumburg ... We will be serving savory small plates, desserts, as well as a tailored wine list," said Martinez. Martinez said they will roll out the same menu in other Chicago stores slated to start serving beer and wine, as well as Atlanta and Southern California.

Stores in the Pacific Northwest that are currently serving beer and wine have added items such as chipotle chicken wraps, chicken lettuce wraps and a salumi (not salami) and cheese plate to their menus.

Beer and wine only will be available after 4 p.m., however, so customers looking forward to having a glass of red with lunch will have to wait a few hours.

Earlier this year, Starbucks announced that it was expanding its "Evening Day- Part concept from the Pacific Northwest into the Chicago area, Atlanta and Southern California. By the end of the year, six more Starbucks in the Chicago area are expected to serve beer and wine, although the list on the other locations has not yet been released.

"We are focused on creating an atmosphere where our customers can relax with a friend, a small bite to eat and a cup of coffee or glass of wine,” said Clarice Turner, senior vice president of Starbucks U.S. Operations about the concept in a press announcement in January.

At the time, Starbucks spokesperson Zack Hutson told Patch that Burr Ridge was the type of community that would be appropriate for the idea.

"We will [bring the concept to a] select group of stores that are relevant to the neighborhood and the customer base in each of the those areas," Hutson said in January.

Patch asked Burr Ridge residents what they thought of alcohol being served at Starbucks. Of those who responded to our poll, 34 percent loved the idea, 23 percent hated it and 42 percent didn't care either way.

So what do you think? It's not too late to weigh in. Does it make a difference that Burr Ridge is one of the first two locations outside the Pacific Northwest chosen to test this new concept? Cast your vote and share why in a comment below.
