Meet “Five Famous African-American Women” at Indian Prairie Library on Feb. 29

(Darien, IL) --- The Indian Prairie Public Library at 401 Plainfield Road in Darien will host actress Cynthia Maddox on Wednesday, February 29 at 7 p.m. as she portrays “Five Famous African-American Women” in honor of Black History Month.

Using stories and songs, Maddox will take the audience on a journey to meet Phillis Wheatley, America’s first African-American poet, to experience the Boston Massacre through the eyes of Crispus Attucks’ wife, to join Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman as they look back over their lives and to rejoice with Gwendolyn Brooks, recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for poetry, and a former Illinois Poet Laureate.  This program is free and open to the public.
