Indian Prairie Library Hosts Lyric Opera Lecture on Rinaldo

(Darien, IL) –  On Thursday, March 1, at 7 p.m., the Indian Prairie Public Library welcomes lecturer Michael Fish from the Lyric Opera Lecture Corps for a presentation on the opera Rinaldo.  The docents of the award-winning Education Corps of the Lyric Opera provide more than 450 free presentations, each season, to more than 10,000 people. The library is one of the 90 different venues that host these lectures.

According to the Lyric Opera website, “Lyric's community-engagement programs enrich the opera experience for life-long aficionados, first timers, and everyone in between. They also touch many Chicagoans who would otherwise be unable to share in the magic of opera. A variety of lecture and discussion events held throughout the Chicago area provide opportunities to learn about unfamiliar works, gain new insights on old favorites, and hear the ideas and opinions of the artists involved.”

This lecture will feature an overview of the opera and information about the historical period and setting.  The lecturer will also profile the composer and musical highlights of George Frederic Handel’s work.  The opera is being performed at the Lyric Opera House from February 29, 2012 through March 24, 2012.
