Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorms This Morning

Winds of 70 mph are expected in the Burr Ridge area.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area, which also includes southeastern Cook County, southeastern Dupage County, northeastern Grundy County, Kankakee County and southern Kendall County, Will County, northern Lake County until 7:15 a.m.

At 6:06 a.m., the NWS doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds in excess of 70 mph.  These storms were located along a line extending from Lake Forest to Medinah to Yorkville and were moving southeast at 55 mph.

Severe thunderstorms will be near Morris, Woodridge, Plainfield and Oak Brook around 6:15 a.m. Storms will be near Minooka, Westmont, Western springs and Westchester around 6:20 a.m. and Montrose Harbor, Coal City, Willow Springs and Summit around 6:25 a.m.
 
Other locations affected include Argonne National Laboratory, located in and Brookfield Zoo.

The NWS advises people to seek shelter in a sturdy structure and stay away from windows until these storms have passed.
