Red Ribbon Week Has Begun!
Burr Ridge Police are announcing a week of activities to remind kids to stay drug free.
Each day throughout this week the will present a different activity to commemorate Red Ribbon Week.
The Red Ribbon effort began in 1985 after the death of Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). While working undercover in Mexico, Kiki was caught, tortured and murdered by drug traffickers.
The National Red Ribbon Campaign was established to recognize and continue Camarena’s fight. The Red Ribbon became the symbol of zero tolerance of illegal drug use and a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
