Morning Briefing: Dual of the Districts Tonight, Rainy and Windy Today

A look at this morning's news and events as you get ready for the weekend.

1. . Debt collectors have become increasingly aggressive in some parts of Illinois, according to reports.

2. Tonight, the Hornets will face off against the Hinsdale Central Red Devils in the "Dual of the Districts" at Benedictine University. The baseball teams are scheduled to hit the field at 6 p.m, the softball teams at 7 p.m. and the soccer teams at 7 p.m. So come cheer your teams on, and don't forget to upload any good pics to our neighborhood gallery.

3. A reminder that the Hinsdale South Badminton Invitational is tomorrow. This year, the team has decided to use the invitational to support the Mesothelioma Cancer Institute. According to the school's website, Dennis Karnstedt (long-time science teacher at  South, as well as a current badminton coach) was recently diagnosed with Mesothelioma. The proceeds from Saturday's tournament will be donated to the Mesothelioma Cancer Institute. A raffle of donated items will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

4. Showers likely and a possible thunderstorm before 1 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS predicts the temperature will fall to 42 degrees by 10 a.m. this morning with wind gusts reaching as high as 30 mph. According to weather.com, temps will climb to a high of 52 today. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low of 34 degrees.
