The Burr Ridge Police Department says that reports of a funnel cloud over Burr Ridge were unfounded.

"There was no funnel cloud," said Deputy Chief Tim Vaclav. "I was right there in the location [when the call went out over dispatch,] so if there was one, I would've been right underneath it."

Vaclav said his squad car as well as a vehicle from the Tri-State Fire Protection District drove up and down Madison and South Frontage Road near I-55 where the funnel cloud was reported and did not see any evidence of it.

A Downers Grove firefighter tweeted at 10:50 a.m. that radio reports indicated a dispatcher may have mistaken dust for a funnel cloud.

Vaclav said there is no need for residents to take shelter at this time, but he understands why the Hinsdale Police used Facebook and Twitter to urge residents to be careful.

"[The Hinsdale Police] wanted to err on the side of caution, and I don't blame them," said Vaclav. "I was just lucky enough to be right in that exact spot when the call came out."

Vaclav said the rain experienced Friday morning has caused a little bit of flooding, but nothing that would impede traffic.
