Five Seasons Burr Ridge Hosts 'Dance for Darlene' on May 24th

On Saturday, May 24th, Five Seasons Family Sports Club in Burr Ridge is hosting "Dance for Darlene," a breast cancer fundraiser that supports the wife of the club's facilities manager.

The three-hour dance-a-thon begins at 2 p.m., with an hourlong ballet barre workout. At 3 p.m., the event transitions into a Latin-infused Zumba dance session, and the final hour is a free dance period.

Open to members and guests, the event is being held in Studio 1 of the club, 6901 S. Madison, for $25 per individual. All of those proceeds, as well as any other contributions that individuals make, go toward supporting Darlene Stepp.

"Most importantly, I want to raise awareness of the importance of getting regular check-ups, whether for breast cancer or any other form of cancer," said Darlene. "This is about so much more than me, and about so many more people going through tougher times than I am right now."

In April, Five Seasons also held a strength-and-fitness fundraiser, dubbed the Spartan Challenge, on Darlene's behalf as she battles the cancer. Her husband, Darryle, is the longtime facilities manager for the club.

The club's efforts to rally around her cause has been "overwhelming," said Darlene, who has a 20-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.

"I'm very excited and grateful for all of the support," added Darlene. She plans to participate in the dance-a-thon and hopes that the effort inspires more women to get regular mammograms.

Having lost one of her grandmothers, an uncle and three aunts to various forms of cancer, Darlene was diligent in getting regular mammograms. So when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2013, that jarring news held a silver lining: her cancer had been detected at Stage 0, a particularly early point that offers more options to battle the disease.

Darlene has already undergone a period of radiation; based on how her body responds to medication, doctors will determine how her treatment regimen will proceed.

Five Seasons is a premier year-round high-energy, high-touch sports club focused on family leisure and entertainment, improving sports performance and maintaining overall health. You can also find Five Seasons Burr Ridge online.
