The deep freeze is on its way and we aren’t talking about temperatures.
A freezing rain advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. Sunday morning until 6 p.m. Sunday evening for DuPage County.
Ice in excess of a quarter of an inch is possible, according to the National Weather Service. A winter storm watch was initially in effect, but the weather service updated its weather outlook Saturday afternoon.
The National Weather Service is predicting freezing rain mixed with sleet will arrive Sunday morning and continue throughout the day until the evening when temperatures begin to rise and the sleet turns to rain.
The ice accumulations may cause tree limbs and power lines to be weighed down, if winds increase it could cause power outages, according to the weather service.
“Pavement and soil temperatures are below freezing. So any liquid precipitation will likely freeze on contact and result in very icy and dangerous travel conditions on untreated roadways,” The National Weather Service said.
