St. Helena's Episcopal Church – Briar Place Nursing Center
Each week, St. Helena's Episcopal Church visits Briar Place Nursing Center and provides art classes to its residents. Call 630-446-0527 to sign-up.
Bridge Communities is a nonprofit located in Glen Ellyn that helps homeless families throughout DuPage County through housing, mentoring. Bridge Communities uses volunteers at its Learning Resource Centers in Glendale Heights, Naperville and Westmont to help monitor the facilities during the evening. Volunteers also work with adults, tutoring them in math, computer skills and preparing for a job.
Volunteer duties range from dog walking and pet therapy to manning the reception desk and helping with special event planning. All volunteers must attend an orientation and the next orientation is Jan. 17.
Willowbrook Wildlife Center, owned and operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, is always looking for volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteer opportunities range from volunteer animal keeper, interpreter, veterinarian and community outreach volunteer. There are a variety of shifts and commitments available. Call 630-942-6200.
West Suburban Community Food Pantry
The West Suburban Community Food Pantry is an emergency food pantry serving needy families in DuPage County. Located in Woodridge, the panty needs volunteers to help restock shelves, pick-up food, work in the office and assist clients with food stamp applications. Fill-out a volunteer form here.
The DuPage County Forest Preserve has many volunteer workdays scheduled throughout the year. Most projects are outdoors and are located at various parks in the county. Click here for their calendar of ongoing volunteer events.
Hinsdale Community Services
Hinsdale Community Services provides help for those needing food, housing, clothing or counseling. Clients come from Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, Willowbrook, Darien and other neighboring communities. Volunteers are needed to assist the elderly clients that use our services. Call 630-323-2500.
The Wellness House in Hinsdale provides information and support to families living with cancer. Volunteers are needed either on a one-time basis, on regular schedules and as family groups. Volunteers help out at the front desk, at special events or in merchandising.
The DuPage Senior Citizens Council
The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is seeking volunteers to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens in Downers Grove, Lisle and Westmont. In addition to drivers, volunteer opportunities also exist for kitchen assistants. Experience is not necessary, training is provided.
The West Suburban Humane Society, located in Downers Grove, relies on volunteers to provide help with building maintenance, fundraising and temporary care and to serve in the adoption center.
