Three Transported to Hospital After Tri-State Accident Near Hinsdale Oasis
A minivan with rear damage was on the right shoulder of northbound I-294 just north of the Hinsdale Oasis.
Updated at 3:10 p.m.
Three patients have been transported to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a semi-trailer truck rear-ended their minivan underneath the Hinsdale Oasis on the Tri-State Tollway Monday afternoon, according to Hinsdale Fire Department spokesman Steve Tullis.
Tullis said the Hinsdale Fire Department got a call at 1:45 p.m. reporting an accident near the Hinsdale Oasis on northbound I-294.
"We got there and quickly assessed that a semi [truck] rear-ended a minivan with three people inside at low rate of speed," Tullis said.
The three minivan passengers wanted to be transported for treatment, Tullis said, while the semi driver refused treatment.
All of the injuries sustained were non-critical, Tullis said. Two of the patients had "yellow" status—meaning they were fully immobilized on a stretcher and might have been hooked up to an IV, given an EKG, or given pain medication—and one had "green status," meaning he or she was immobilized, but not given medication or anything beyond basic life support.
Tullis said the Western Springs Fire Department and Pleasantview Fire Protection District sent one ambulance each. Hinsdale's ambulance was also on the scene.
The incident has been turned over to Illinois State Police.
Spokesman Bill Srejma of the Pleasantview Fire Protection District said Pleasantview is assisting Hinsdale Fire Department on the accident. Currently, all ambulances have departed the scene, all lanes of northbound traffic are open, and only the semi truck and a State Police car remain on the shoulder.
The Hinsdale Fire Department says it has a truck at the site of the accident, but at this time has no information on the accident.
Northbound traffic in I-294 is slowed at the Hinsdale Oasis for an apparent accident involving a minivan and a semi truck.
Several ambulances are on the scene, as well as a fire truck. Illinois State Police is also present. A red minivan with rear damage is on the right shoulder in front of a red semi truck.
The Illinois State Police District 15 office has given no comment at this time.
