Mother’s Day went well for Delores Wehn. While some were finishing some mother-daughter shopping at the Village Center, Wehn was sipping a hot cup of coffee at Starbucks and watching the sunset between text messages from her friends.

What brings you to Starbucks?

I just finished golfing and wanted some good coffee after my dinner. We’re regulars here. It’s a nice place to kick back at.

What do you do for a living?

My husband and I have been in the insurance industry for 30 years. He owns an agency called Robert Wehn and Associates in Darien, and I do a lot of the administrative office work. In today’s day and age, holding your own and keeping a family business afloat is an accomplishment all in itself—especially with Barack Obama in office. He’s killing our industry, our economy and our constitution.

What street do you live on?

91st Street.

What do you like about Burr Ridge?

We’ve been here for 16 years, but I want to move back to a red state. We came from Oklahoma. Burr Ridge does have a small town feeling where people are much friendlier than other parts of Chicago. I love the Brookhaven Marketplace too. It has a good variety that’s close to home.

Do you have any hobbies?

I’m a member of the Beverly Country Club, so I golf as much as possible. I usually get into the high 90s. Golf itself is very calming, but being outdoors is relaxing too. I also play bridge about twice a month. And texting has become a hobby as well. I got started, so I could keep in touch with my daughter, but now I text my friends all the time. Who would have thought you can get information so quickly from anywhere without disturbing anyone?

What community issues are important to you?

This is a safe community with friendly neighborhoods. I couldn’t ask for much more.
