Hinsdale Central's Brian Allen Wins State Wrestling Title

Hinsdale Central junior wrestler Brian Allen beat Neuqua Valley senior Andrew Geers, 4-2, in the 3A state final Saturday night at Champaign's Assembly Hall, capping an undefeated season with a state title and giving his school its second individual first-place finish, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The first-ever Hinsdale Central individual wrestling title was won by Brian's older brother, Jack, in 2011, the Sun-Times reports.
Brian Allen finished his 2012-13 season with a perfect 48-0 record, according to the IHSA website. Geers had entered the final match with an unblemished 40-0 mark.
Allen beat Glenbard East's D'Andre Johnson (37-8 record), Moline High School's Adarios Jones (42-3), and Thornton Fractional South's Corinthian McBridge (39-3) in the prelims, quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
According to the Sun-Times, Allen and Geers scored all their points in the first of three periods during the final match.
Red Devils sophomore Juwan Edmond nearly gave Hinsdale Central two champs in one year, making it all the way to the state final of the 138-pound bracket.
Edmond, who finished his season with a 41-9 record, lost to Mech Spraggins of Belleville West.
Hinsdale South Justin Maslow took fifth place in the 145-pound bracket.
As a team, Hinsdale Central will face Sandburg in the sectional round of the dual tournament Tuesday night.
