Dianne Barrett Not Among 9 Running for D86 Board: Election 2013
The contested race will be decided during next spring's municipal election on April 9.

Dianne Barrett is the only District 86 Board of Education member up for re-election next spring who will not be running, according to district administration.
Wednesday was the last day those interested in running could file their nominating papers with the district. Current Board President Dennis Brennan and members Kay Gallo and DeeDee Gorgol were among those who filed along with six other challengers.
Barrett has been in a legal battle with District 86 over board member access to student records since 2010.
Barring any objections, the April 9 ballot will feature the following candidates for District 86 school board:
- Claudia D. Manley
- Jennifer Babbington
- Victor M. Casini
- Dennis A. Brennan (incumbent)
- Deirdre "DeeDee" Gorgol (incumbent)
- Kay S. Gallo (incumbent)
- Roseanne Rosenthal
- Edward A. Corcoran
- Roger J. Kempa

Does this mean she needs to drop the lawsuit against the district? She was fighting for records she thought were open to her as a Board member. Will she continue to rack up legal bills to District 86? She needs to drop the lawsuit now and not cost taxpayers another dime!

Thanks Joe. I would really love to see a caucus formed for District 86 as it is for Hinsdale Village and District 181. It is a very full ballot and some of the candidates bring specific agendas, some with some strong Tea Party backing. Would be nice to see these agendas vetted in the Caucus process so the voters are presented with the actual views of each candidate. I am sure our community is not looking forward to another election season!! Happy New Year to you!

Caucus involvement would be inappropriate. Firstly, District 86 serves multiple villages. Creating a Caucus for the entire District 86 area would be unmanageable. Secondly, the Caucus itself and the members typically bring their own agenda and bias to the process. Let’s not create a larger body of personal agendas. The Hinsdalean and Doings do a credible service of publishing interviews with the candidates.

While I agree it would not be a perfect solution I still believe a caucus would be beneficial to this process. District 181 also serves multiple communities and it was not long ago, or at least it doesn't seem so long ago, that District 86 did have a caucus endorsed slate. You mention The Hinsdalean and The Doings, which I agree cover the election well, but District 86 also serves Darien, Westmont, Burr Ridge, Willowbrook.... It gets to be an expensive campaign for these candidates to reach out to all the constituents.
