If you're looking for a romantic, candle-lit dinner this weekend, a few La Grange restaurants will offer that in honor of Earth Hour.
The worldwide event calls for people to turn off non-essential lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. this Saturday, March 23, to raise awareness about energy efficiency and climate change. The movement is organized by the World Wildlife Fund and last year took place in more than 7,000 cities and towns across the world.
In La Grange you'll be able to enjoy a candle-lit dinner at Fireside Wood-Fired Pizza, which will offer any pizza and beer for $12 between 8:30 and 9:30. Francesca's Bellezza and Prasino will also shut off the lights for a candle-lit dinner during that hour.
Other businesses are getting in on the action. EcoManiacs, which sells eco-friendly merchandise, will turn off its lights for an organized game called "Camp S'mores" around the light of an eco-campfire. There will also be real s'mores to snack on.
The McDonald's at Ogden and La Grange roads will offer a complimentary small Shamrock Shake with any extra-value meal purchased between 3 p.m. and 9:30.
Red Mango will be handing out glow-in-the-dark green hair and mustaches to customers while supplies last during Earth Hour.
